Puppies have boundless energy and are an exciting addition to any home. However, parenting a puppy bring challenges – especially for those with little to no experience. Without a basic understanding of some common skills to teach your puppy, it may be disheartening to have a puppy who refuses to listen to you and a home that is fast becoming destroyed.
At our Puppy Pre-Schools in Brisbane and Canberra, our trained and qualified puppy trainers deliver a course where you will learn to understand your puppy’s behaviours and teach them the tools and techniques needed to integrate into your family. The course is for puppies aged between 8 and 18 weeks which coincides with their critical development period. It is a great way for your puppy to socialise in a fun environment from a young age and give them much needed early guidance. The course is made up of five lessons over a five week period and your puppy will graduate after the fifth lesson.
Classes are small in size and limited to a maximum of eight puppies. They are held in a restricted clean area not frequented by roaming dogs. Puppies are not required for lesson one, which is all about you, the owner. For all other lessons, you arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of the lesson with your puppy, their vaccination certificate, flat collar and lead, toy, treats and treat pouch.
Puppy Pre-School is priced at $125 for five weeks of classes which includes all course materials, certificate of graduation and a departure pack full of goodies. To be eligible to attend Puppy Pre-school, your puppy must be vaccinated.
PRIVATE PUPPY LESSON
If you are unable to attend the five week puppy pre-school classes, we also offer a one-on-one puppy lesson held in the grounds of our Dog Training Academies. In this one-hour class, your dog trainer will teach you the importance of socialisation, recall, lead training and basic commands. This class will help you to understand your puppy, learn more about its breed and develop an unbreakable bond.
Priced at $75, the following areas of training are covered:
- Understanding your puppy
- Settling/calming techniques
- Deny and permission techniques
- Tools to stop play nipping
- Crate and toilet training
- Socialisation and the introduction of another dog or cat
- Techniques to help your puppy come back when called
- Introduction of the collar, lead and walking
- First steps in teaching to sit
Puppy school is the important first step in developing a family-friendly pet, who will go on to enjoy playing and interacting safely with other humans and dogs. During their classes, your puppy will learn important socialisation and communication skills in a fun environment, without the threat of bullying from other pups and older dogs. With a maximum of eight puppies in each class, your puppy will learn how to communicate with other dogs, and come into contact with a variety of other people and pups, while you’ll also be taught how to read canine body postures and basic training skills.
ESSENTIAL DEVELOPMENTAL STAGE
Your puppy will continue to learn and grow throughout their life, but it’s well recognised that the early months of your puppy’s life are crucial to their learning. Puppy school is designed to coincide with one of your puppy’s critical development periods, between 8 and 18 weeks of age. This is the time when your puppy is learning to explore away from their den and when they’re open to new experiences and situations. It’s a great time to introduce puppies to situations they’ll face in the big wide world – like meeting and interacting with other people and dogs.
Our trainers are trained and qualified Puppy School dog trainers with a fundamental understanding of early canine behaviour. Your experienced trainer will guide you and your puppy through their learning outcomes each week. Our trainers have also developed a series of course materials that you will receive each lesson, to help you in your own journey as a dog owner and, on completion of the five week course, your puppy will receive their very own certificate of graduation, as well as departure pack full of goodies.
